133/365 – Up-Sold

When we got married, I had enough people renting tuxes in the wedding party to get a 450 dollar credit at Men’s Warehouse.  Today, I took them up on it.  I went to get a suit and ended up getting a 600 dollar suit for 200.  Crazy — but still, the guy up sold me.  200 bucks is just too much for me to part with right now.  It’s a nice suit.  Don’t get me wrong.  But it let a big knot in my stomach knowing I have 6 weeks of unemployment in LA stating next Thursday.

Of course, this guy's not doing anything. So we can probably hang out.

I hate when people up sell me.  It’s annoying.  I told the guy twice all I wanted was a suit — so he spent 30 minutes trying to sell me shirts and ties.  Megan encouraged him by helping him pick out handkerchiefs, ties and shirts.  She was just thinking this is fun.  I’m thinking that this is a huge waste of time for both me and him.  he works on commission and so he’s hoping I’ll buy two ties and two shirts.  I came there hoping to buy only what the credit allowed.

Megan did this as a joke once.  Every time I went to this particular Gamestop in Chicago, the manager would try to sell me on the Power Rewards Membership.  He was like a drug pusher – relentless.  I would have to say no at least 4 times before he would give up.  Megan knew how much I hated this.  One visit, when MEgan tagged along, the guy started his pitch . . . . “Would you be interested in joining our Power Rewards program?”  here we go again.  I’m ready to be stern and give him no room for another offer.  Instead, Megan kicks my foot and says, “Yeah, tell us more,” and then she walked away, leaving me to deal with the aftermath.  She was laughing.  I was angry.

It was funny, but in this case – at Men’s Warehouse, I really just wanted to be released from this sale.  It was clear he was unselling me and Megan just thought he was being nice.  So, now I feel crappy because I wasted his time (he wasted his time, actually) and I’m out 200 bucks.

So, I’m just going to give you this crazy video.  Because I feel like it.  Enjoy your nightmares . . .
